PARIS, BEFORE THE LIGHT - AND OTHER SHOWS WORTH SEEING IN NEW YORK
William Meyers
Thirteen galleries are featuring shows about New York City this summer. The uptown venues are Bonni Benrubi, Howard Greenberg, Edwynn Houk, Laurence Miller and Pace/MacGill. The Chelsea contingent includes Deborah Bell, Danziger Projects, Hasted Hunt, Robert Mann, Yossi Milo, Yancey Richardson and Julie Saul. Janet Borden is the SoHo redoubt. Each gallery has a different angle: Hasted Hunt has pictures of the Statue of Liberty; Houk has Joel Meyerowitz’s color photographs from 1977; Greenberg has William Klein’s work from 1954-55; Yancey Richardson has classic and contemporary shots of Times Square; Laurence Miller, a moving tribute to Helen Levitt. Taken all together, this is a spectacular display of New York photographs.
