FROM EXTRACTION TO CONSUMPTION: OIL, AN EXHIBITION BY EDWARD BURTYNSKY
Oct 13, 2009
By Eric Hilaire
From oilfields to expressways, from Canada to Los Angeles and to the Middle East, the acclaimed photographer Edward Burtynsky’s obsession with oil has taken him from extraction to production to consumption. In this exhibition, running until 28 November 2009, Burtynsky tracks this controversial, valuable and increasingly scarce resource. The New York gallery at Hasted Hunt Kraeutler is hosting the exhibition and it is presented in conjunction with the publication of the artist’s new monograph, Edward Burtynsky: Oil (Steidl 2009), and a major museum show at The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC, which will run at the same time.
