In German artist Marin Schoeller's complex and captivating photographs of female bodybuilders, the women's made-up girlish heads contrast with the formidable musculature erupting from their taut, shiny skin. But Schoeller captures something ineffable about their humanity, resisting the urge to render his subjects as camp or make them objections of ridicule. Shock gives way to admiration. Through August 27 at Hasted Hunt Kraeutler.
